FRIENDS OF SILVER LAKE NATURE CENTER UNRESTRICTED

The Friends of Silver Lake Nature Center Board of Directors will apply the interest generated annually by your gift to the project or expense that represents the greatest need at that moment in time.

CARE OF THE GROUNDS – ECOGARDEN

The EcoGarden Fund assures the continued development of educational and aesthetic landscaping near the SLNC Visitors’ Center. This includes the water garden, the amphitheater, the butterfly gardens, and landscaping around the building. In the future we anticipate that more gardens will be developed both for natural beauty and to enhance our 250 acre outdoor classroom. Your gift will support this effort forever.

JOHN HERBERT RUDOLPH FUND FOR EDUCATION

Our oldest fund, established in memory of John Herbert Rudolph, supports worthwhile educational purposes. In recent years, this fund has been effectively used to promote staff development, helping our teaching staff to attend workshops, seminars and classes.

CREATE YOUR OWN — SPONSORING A FUND FOR THE FRIENDS OF SILVER LAKE NATURE CENTER

You can create a new one. There are currently two endowed funds for the Friends of Silver Lake Nature Center, the J. H. Rudolph Fund and the Friends of Silver Lake Nature Center Endowment Fund that supports general operations. Ideally, the Center could use endowed positions as suggested below. Support for the position underwrites that salary in perpetuity. An endowed fund of $300,000 would provide $15,000 in income annually, which would be enough to fund a ¾-year of internships or a half position.

The four positions that would greatly benefit SLNC include in priority order:

  • An Intern position(s) – People from around the world who work and learn at SLNC for three-month periods.
  • The Volunteer Coordinator position – Someone to coordinate our volunteer program.
  • An Education position – Someone who will help provide educational programs for groups and the public.
  • A Naturalist position –Someone with an extensive knowledge of nature to help manage the Center’s habitats, lead field trips, assist with groups and answer the questions of the public.

A bequest can also support a program, facility development, education, or outreach to a specific population or school system. It could be designed to support for an internship, a special study, an educational or research function, or anything you can think of that would be of lasting benefit to the mission of Silver Lake. It is up to you.
