Winter is here. What happens to animals that live near? Do they sleep, migrate, or freeze? Let’s crawl into the Hibernation Hut to learn about their winter strategies.
Crawl through a tunnel into the Hibernation Hut, where our (puppet) animal friends will talk about their winter lives.
The Hibernation Hut can accommodate up to a MAXIMUM of 20 children at a time.

Ponds in Winter
It’s winter at the pond, let’s dive in to see what goes on. From ducklings, pollywogs, dragonflies, and a frog or two, let’s discover what they all do.
Let’s discover the seasonal cycles of the pond with a story and activities.
Bugs and Beasties (winter version)
From egg to insect and how they grow, where do they go when it snows?
Go on a bug hunt to discover the hidden lives of insects and others.

Discovery Walk
A new season is here, time to renew.
Take a walk to discover what the animals and plants are going to do.
Bugs and Beasties (spring version)
Wake up bugs, spring is here, everything is turning green.
Ladybug, butterfly, where have you been? It’s been a long time since you’ve been seen.
Life in a Log (animal homes)
This fall, come visit us or let us visit your school with our giant “LOG!”
Children will have the opportunity to learn and see – when a tree is dead or falls to the ground, are there good reasons to keep it around? In this program we will see what the many reasons can be.
Children will get to crawl through our giant “log” and then our (puppet) “friends” will talk about what it’s like to live life in a log.
Ponds and Puddles
Do a mini pond study to discover the aquatic zoo.
Learn about these water creatures and what they do.
Fees:
At our location: $8.00/person ($10 in May) for 1-hour program. MINIMUM #12.
At your location: $250 for a one-hour program. Discounts available for multiple programs scheduled for the same day. Also, if driving distance is more than 15 miles away from SLNC, there will be an additional fee for mileage.
Please note for all programs scheduled for a group: A deposit of $100.00 is required to secure date. Balance due on day of program. No refund of deposit unless program is cancelled by the Nature Center.
Programs done at our site include a walk on our beautiful trails, as well as use of our pavilion for picnic lunch and our “Natural Play Area for Children.”
