DESCRIPTION:Our wonderful volunteers did an incredible job cleaning up around Cassalia Pond at the Volunteer Workday last Saturday\, removing 1\,550 pounds of trash! Unfortunately\, there is much more to be done. We are asking for volunteers to come out and do a follow-up cleanup around Cassalia Pond this Thursday at 10am. Together we can remove the rest of the trash and make the world and SLNC an even better place! DESCRIPTION:Nature Mural Walk\nAll are invited to join us for a Guided Walk celebrating Nature\, Art\, and Community. \nWe will meet at the “Welcome Kiosk” outside of the SLNC Visitors’ Center and begin our Nature Mural Walk from there. \nOn this Walk\, we’ll visit the beautiful murals created (and maybe even currently in progress:) by amazing Local Artist of BristolWm. Roger Clark\, whose artwork celebrates the plants\, wildlife\, and Natural beauty found throughout Silver Lake Nature Center. \nThe first mural\, located on the front of the SLNC Visitors’ Center\, was completed in 2009 with grant funding for supplies. Inspired by its success\, Mr. Clark has generously volunteered his time\, talent\, and artistic expertise to personally fund and create each additional mural\, leaving a remarkable legacy throughout the Nature Center\, where many thousands of Visitors enjoy throughout all seasons! \nThis Walk will take us through MANY areas of the Nature Center Grounds/Trails\, enjoying the peacefulness of the Forest and Lake while visiting the beautiful murals throughout. Participants will enjoy a reception/social hour featuring ‘light bites’ and beverages\, special guests\, memorabilia\, and surprises. The evening will also offer opportunities to reconnect with some of the people who have helped shape Silver Lake Nature Center over the past six decades\, forge new friendships with fellow Nature enthusiasts\, and celebrate the shared memories and lasting connections that make this SLNC community so special. \nWe are honored to welcome Robert “Merce” Mercer\, retired Director-Naturalist of Silver Lake Nature Center\, as our featured presenter. Merce served as Director-Naturalist for 40 of SLNC’s 60 years\, and his reflections and stories will highlight the rich history and enduring legacy of SLNC. \nThe evening will also feature an outstanding live performance by renowned musicians from Al Mikula’s Big Band Ensemble – also performing as the “Speak Easy Saints” and the “Red Garter Orchestra!” \n  \nThis special anniversary celebration is also a fundraising event benefiting the nonprofit Friends of SLNC organization. SUMMARY:Beginner Birding
DESCRIPTION:Are you curious about birds? Do you want to learn more\, but aren’t sure where to begin? Get started with our Beginner Birding Class! \nThe class will begin with a short presentation on basic bird anatomy\, ecology\, identification tips\, and a binocular tutorial. Then participants will get outside and gain hands-on birding experience through a guided bird ID walk. SUMMARY:Fall Beginners Crochet Series
DESCRIPTION:Join us this fall for SLNC’s Beginner Crochet Series! \nThis is a 4-part series of fall-themed crochet classes designed for beginners. Everyone is welcome to attend the series regardless of if they have ever crocheted before. \nEach class focuses on one skill to make each lesson more digestible. At the end of each session\, attendees will go home with knowledge of another stitch\, a small\, completed project\, and take-home practice that will help attendees build muscle memory\, which is essential to the learning process. \nEach session will be on a Saturday from 1-2:30pm in the SLNC Visitors’ Center Auditorium. The sessions will be on October 3rd\, October 17th\, November 7th\, and November 21st. \nPre-Registration is required and registration is for the entire series including 4 sessions.
