Summer Environmental Educator/Natural Resources Internship
Description: The Environmental Educator/Natural Resources Intern is responsible for developing and delivering educational programs that promote environmental awareness, conservation, and sustainability. This role involves working with diverse audiences, including students, community groups, and the public, to inspire a deeper understanding of ecological principles. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the outdoors, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The location of this internship will be at Silver Lake Nature Center, but sites may vary.
- Housing may be available.
Responsibilities:
- Program Development: Assist with designing and implementing educational programs and workshops focused on various environmental topics (e.g., biodiversity, conservation). Be able to present a final project when your term is completed. This project may include curriculum development, materials for nature-based programming, or a topic that is approved by the supervisor.
- Outreach and Engagement: Conduct outreach activities to engage the community and schools, promoting participation in environmental programs and initiatives.
- Field Work: Assist in leading field trips and other outdoor activities. Perform trail repairs, remove invasive plant species, and assist in the implementation and data collection.
- Collaboration: Partner with local organizations, government agencies, and others to promote environmental education and community involvement. Collaborate with volunteers, staff, and community groups during volunteer days.
- Public Speaking: Present information at workshops and community events.
Qualifications:
- Education: Working towards a degree in education, environmental science, or related field.
- Experience: Previous experience in environmental education, stewardship, or community outreach is a plus, but not required.
- Skills: Strong communication, public speaking, basic computer skills, and organizational skills.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Be willing to have a background check and receive a child abuse clearance.
Working Conditions:
- Mostly Outdoors (in various weather conditions)
- Weekdays and Weekends (up to 5 days/week)
- Occasional evenings for special events or programs
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
